HappySky AC works

Posted by xat on December 31st, 2006

So I got IIDX HappySky AC (HS for short) working almost perfectly on this system (finally!). There's still a small amount of input lag, and almost all videos start playing 10 frames earlier than they should. Luckily, HS references directshow to play all of its video, meaning I can adjust the amount of delay and even re-encode the video to a different format. h264 was the obvious solution, unfortunately playback didn't work very well within HS. Here's the thing: HS has 237 videos totaling 6gb; all of them are about 2 minutes long and in mpeg format (directshow will compensate by switching to an appropriate decoder). Each are about 30mb in size, and halving them (through h264) would have been sufficient since a. it didn't look too bad, and b. I don't really pay attention to the videos when playing anyway. HS is 10gb in total; it would have been nice to be able to use h264 and knock that size down to less than 7gb (less than a DVD9), but alack, playback was terrible in-game for whatever reason. Oh well. Instead I re-encoded the videos through xvid simply to correct the video delay.
